What are the hottest hair style trends for this summer?
We’ve been seeing a lot of long layers, which is adding texture and deep cuts to the end of the hair. It looks great with natural texture and is very summer orientated. People are also looking at a lot of naturally finished styling, such as waves or a natural kink, but not curls.
With regards to colour, we’re finally moving away from balayage (ombre), and looking more at smudging of colour through the hair. It’s also still on trend to show a bit of root colour, which is great as it gives people who colour their hair a longer life expectancy from their colour. This is more of an editorial trend that is starting to come through in the salon.
Short hair is very 80’s inspired at the moment. We’re seeing more extreme undercuts, very textured, very choppy hair. People are even going back to pastels in their hair colour, like pinks and purples.
I've heard that frequently changing the products I use in my hair can make it healthier. Is this an urban myth, or true?
Urban myth -you do not need to change your shampoo and conditioner every few months. Sometimes if your hair gets used to products, you can get a build up. Changing products regularly changes this up. If you do find your hair a bit heavy I would also recommend using a clarifying shampoo. This helps to give the hair a thorough clean. Remember that if your hair does feel heavy, don’t blame this on your conditioner. You must use conditioner to keep your hair hydrated. Don’t sacrifice the conditioner, change the product.
What makes Aqua Light so Ground Breaking for Pantene?
Aqua Light, the new formula to the Pantene range, is light weight and therefore it doesn’t way your hair down. It’s still hydrating and it rinses out of your hair very quickly and easily and has a weightless feel.
What benefits can we get from lightweight hair? Why is it so important?
Styling wise, your hair is more pliable when it’s light weight which means you can rework your hair, and you get more volume. Light weight hair also means you get longevity and a few more days ware without having to wash it!
Why is it so important that hair is rinsed of residues?
If you don’t rinse your conditioner out properly it will make your hair oily, harder to style, and look dull.
Does the zero-residue benefit of Aqua Light mean our hair stays cleaner, for longer?
Yes, because there’s zero residue in the hair. However this does depend on which styling products you also use and what you do to your hair in between washes.
How often should we be washing our hair?
As a general rule, the maximum you should be washing your hair every second day. However obviously everybody’s hair is different, and it will depend on your hair type.
Is it important to use the treatment as well as the Shampoo and Conditioner? How often should we treat our hair?
This depends on your hair type and the time of year. If you’re on the beach and in the sun a lot you should be applying treatments more regularly, as your hair will be dryer. Treatments are a great way to give your hair extra moisture and bit of indulgence. With that in mind, if you have fine or damaged hair only use treatment on the tips so you don’t weigh the hair down. However the new Pantene Aqua Light Lightweight Treatment is specifically designed to use on fine hair without weighing it down.
Is lightweight hair easier to style and will it hold my hair style for longer?
Yes and yes. If you want to put your hair up, generally dirtier hair is better as it has more grip. But if you want volume, waves or straight, then it’s definitely better if your hair is light weight. Just note, with curls, you may need to apply a little bit of hairspray to hold the curls in there.
If I used styling products, like mousse, after washing my hair with Aqua Light, will my hair still be lifted and lightweight?
It depends on the products you are using. It’s important to understand your hair and how much product your hair needs. Some hair holds style better than others. If you’re worried I would recommend sticking to the classics like mousse and hairspray. A fantastic product is Pantene Pro-V Body Building Mousse.
Does the product work well on all hair types? Coloured hair, hair that tends to frizz?
The hair best suited to Pantene Aqua Light is fine hair or hair that often feels weighed down. It’s great for limp hair, and women who have had babies, as the hair tends to go thinner after you’ve had kids. I think there are other shampoos in the Pantene range that are better suited to coloured hair.
How else can I maintain my hair so that it looks healthy and shiny, beyond what product I use?
The big one would be limiting the use of heat activated styling tools like, hair dryers, straightening irons and curling tongs. We are seeing more and more split ends, deep into the hair, and higher up the hair shaft, which are much harder for hairdressers to cut out. If you have to use styling tools, I would recommend only a couple of times a week.
If you want to wake up with texture in your hair, my tip would be to tie it up into a high bun when its wet before you go to bed and in the morning you’ll have soft waves with texture through your hair. A great tip for summer hair.
Another quick tip would be to stop fiddling with your hair as it dries! This gives it frizz. So don’t touch!
