Makeup for Every Summer Occasion

Nothing makes you feel stickier and greasier than overdone makeup in the summer. That’s why it’s always best to aim for change and lighten up a bit in the summer months. You can still look polished and pretty for picnics, weddings or beach volleyball with minimal makeup. In fact, you might even look a bit sexier! Here are three light looks to try throughout all of your fun summer events:

1. The Beach Goddess.

Whether you’re enjoying a music festival or digging in the sand for a spiked volleyball, the beach requires a no-fuss, no-muss look. Instead of doing full-on foundation, aim for a golden, dewy glow. Mix a pearly highlighter with some tinted moisturizer (make sure it has SPF) to even out your skin tone and add a bit of sheen. Instead of pressed powder all over, sweep bronzer across the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin for a bit of colour. Lastly, swipe on the mascara and a bit of tinted lip balm to finish the look.

Rouge recommends: Olay Touch of Foundation

2. The Wedding Charmer.

The rule is you cannot wear white to a wedding so as not to compete with the bride. But they never said anything about flashing a bright pink lip! Instead of playing up the drama with your eyes, which can be a little too heavy for the summer, aim to go bare all over -- except the lip. Cover your blemishes with concealer and dust away any shine. Add a very sheer and see-through blush over the cheeks for a bit of colour. If you must put something on the eyes, a nude shadow and some mascara will do, but use a light hand. Finish with a bright pink, coral or red lipstick. The trick: Use satin or cream -- anything that looks hydrating -- to make it summer-appropriate. Matte is too thick, and frost is not bold enough.

3. The Park Princess.

A lazy summer day at the park requires very little makeup. Stick with a basic pretty colour -- a muted pink, a deep rose, a soft mauve -- and wear it over the lips, cheeks and eyes. The key is to blend well and keep your skin fresh. That means you must blot away shine regularly. Be warned, though: Monochromatic colour can be boring, so top the lips with a shiny gloss to add a bit of oomph and texture. Other than that, the uniform colour over flawless skin will look effortless and forever fresh!
