According to New York-based makeup artist MinMinMa, high-tech advancements in mascara formulas — paired with a few key liner and mascara tips — have made it easy to score a long and fabulous fringe. Here’s how.
How To Get High Drama Lashes
Step-by-step
-
1. LINE
“Line your eyes at the base of your lashes to make them look thicker and fuller and to emphasize your eyes,” says MinMinMa. Apply a creamy eye pencil to the back of your hand and then gently press the color into the base of your lashes with an angled brush. “The closer you get to the roots, the more natural and effective it will look. Color is a personal preference, but I like black, dark brown or charcoal gray.”
-
2. CURL
“Curling your lashes is like using a primer before applying foundation,” says MinMinMa. “You won’t need as much mascara, and your mascara won’t have to work as hard to achieve that natural curve.” For a daytime look, lock in the curl with a lengthening mascara on the upper lashes.
-
3. COAT
Get the look: Ready to dial up the drama? Swap your lengthening mascara for one that adds volume, too. “Black is definitely the most popular color, but you can also experiment with brights like blue,” says MinMinMa. Wiggle the wand as you brush from root to tip, angling it up toward the outer corners for a wide-eyed effect. For the bottom lashes, hold the wand straight up and move it from side to side. Apply two or three coats, let dry, then comb out any clumps with a lash comb.

The best mascara is Max Factor Masterpiece Max for great volume, and the brush isn’t so huge you poke your eye out! Stays on and doesn’t crumble like some brands. I don’t have very many bottom lashes, so smudging some eyeliner along the lower lash line helps a lot.
I bought Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara which turned out to be one of the worst mascara I have ever had! I certainly will not buy it again.
Years ago, MF discontinued their “Super Lash Maker - Waterproof Mascara” with the brilliant Brush/Comb wand. Now, THAT was their best ever Mascara & Wand product. Bring it back, please, Max Factor.
I recently purchased Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ mascara. I makes my lashes look longer than any mascara I’ve used before, but clumps and flakes pretty bad. Other than that it is a good mascara and I love the way it makes my eyelashes look!
I absolutely love mascara, it is my number one product that I cannot do without! So, I have tried lots and lots of different brands - expensive ones, less expensive ones, brand names, just about everything on the market. However, the one that has impressed me the most is Designer Brands mascara. It is gentle and silky and works really well with an eyelash curler and how did I come across this little miracle - it was a sample!
